Erineum

        Erineum      1998     Sandstone   23 x 35 x 40 cm

                            PRIVATE COLLECTION

Carved from a square block of an unknown honey-coloured sandstone, the same stone as used for ' bone breccia '  . The title ' erineum ' refers to a term for fungal growths on tree bark , which is what this sculpture suggested to me when completed.

This sculpture is unusual in that I began with no maquette to work from. This is usually not a good idea as I get lost with nothing to refer to and keep me on track, but I managed to improvise successfully as I went along with this piece.
